Vote For That Model Railway Guy In The Hornby Magazine Awards!
Voting is now open for the Hornby Magazine Model Railway Awards 2026, and once again there’s a category for YouTube Channel of the Year!
Over the years, That Model Railway Guy has come incredibly close to taking the top spot, finishing both second and third in previous awards. So, could 2026 finally be our year?
If you’ve enjoyed watching the channel over the past 12 months, I’d be incredibly grateful if you would consider casting your vote for That Model Railway Guy.
What Have I Been Up To This Year?
It’s actually been a pretty busy 12 months on the channel! To celebrate the 80th anniversary of The Railway Series, I built my own version of Ffarquhar, based on Rev. W. Awdry’s original track plan, as part of my A Slice of Sodor series.
There was also the Build Along Model Railway, a four-part series designed to help beginners through the process of building their first model railway, from laying the track through to creating the scenery.
At the other end of the scale, I built Tynnach, a tiny 009 narrow gauge layout designed to show that you really don’t need a huge amount of space to enjoy building and operating a model railway.
Alongside all of that, we’ve had livestreams from the layout, gone behind the scenes of the hobby, helped raise awareness for the David Clarke Model Railway, talked about some of the less positive sides of the hobby such as bullying surrounding exhibitions, and somehow I’ve managed to release more than 50 new videos over the past year!
And, of course, there have been plenty of other projects, reviews, tutorials and discussions along the way.
How To Vote
This year voting works a little differently. Rather than choosing a YouTube Channel from a predetermined selection, you can type in the name of whichever channel you would like to vote for. That potentially means votes could be spread across more channels than ever before, so every individual vote really does make a difference.
When you reach the Youtube Channel Of The Year category, simply type: That Model Railway Guy into the box.
You don’t have to vote in every category, so don't worry about filling out the sections for scales you don't model in. If you just want to vote in the YouTube category you can skip straight to it.
You’ll also be given the option to provide your email information, but you don’t have to do that if you don’t want to — you can still submit your vote without it.
